Fountain Valley Living Magazine and website are the premier publications for and about the residents, businesses and organizations in the city of Fountain Valley, CA. We strive to connect people at all levels and interests with what is happening in our city.

Fountain Valley Living Magazine is a monthly publication that features articles, photos and calendar of events about the the people of our town.  This web site delivers  day-to-date updates of what is taking place in Fountain Valley. It is the perfect combination for you to keep up with what is happening in Fountain Valley.

City Creates Small Business Relief Loan Program
The city has created the Small Business Emergency Relief Loan Program, which will provide funding to small businesses with less than 25 employees who need financial assistance to overcome the temporary loss of revenue because of the COVID-19 pandemic.


Beachpoint Church Food Pantry Accepting Drive-up Food Donations
Beachpoint Church has been reaching out to the community by providing weekly food donations to local seniors and families in need.

Pastor Kim Staffieri said the church operates a food pantry and each week, residents are invited to drop off needed groceries and other items at the church. Specific food needs are listed and updated weekly on the church website, www.beachpoint.com.

“As the Safer at Home order started, Beachpoint began to explore how we could help those in need in the local community. We partnered the senior members of our church with younger adults who could pick up their groceries and prescriptions,” Staffieri said. “We then found ourselves partnering with the city to help other seniors in the city who needed this assistance.

My mother sends me all the news even though I can just go to their current website and read about what's happening in Fountain Valley. However I realize this is her way to let me know she is ok. I am glad California is one of the states, like Australia where I now live that has a government officials who are taking this pandemic seriously. I then dutifully email her about the events that are going on in Melbourne where I live. This past summer we went through a lockdown with another deadly wave of infections. When the restrictions were lifted, we had endured one of the world's longest and toughest lockdowns. It was controversial, calamitous for jobs and crushingly hard for many, but health specialists believe it has worked, since as of October daily cases are almost flat. The USA is now experiencing a terrible surge in cases. I tell my mother to be really cautious and safe when she goes out and always wear her N95 mask.

What did I do during the lockdown? I worked from home, watched a lot of movies, and played a lot of online pokies. My US friends still ask me the difference between pokie slots. I always laugh and tell them that what they call slot machines, we in Australia use the word pokie. One theory is that in the early days (around the 1900s) of Australian casinos, one of the first games was in fact a poker machine perhaps what others call video poker. When slot machines started to gain popularity and be situated next to these poker machines, it just became easier to refer to all the gaming machines in the room as pokies. Today at online casinos, such as Fair Go Casino (my favorite) that are geared towards Australian players, the term pokies refers to all slot games, not just slot machines. Another online casino I visit is Uptown Pokies. You can easily guess what time of casino games they offer in abundance.

My mother loved going to Las Vegas to play the slots. I have helped her set up an account at Uptown Aces the sister casino to Uptown Pokies so she can play her favorite RTG pokie games, oops I mean slot games. LOL.

Kids Fishing Derby this Saturday at Mile Square Park

Get the rods and reels ready for the kids because the annual Kids’ Fishing Derby is set for this Saturday at the North Lake at Mile Square Regional Park. OC Parks, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Angler Chronicles will host the event beginning at 7:30 a.m. 

Kids ages 15 and under fish for free at the Fishing Derby and compete to win prizes. The lake will be stocked with over 1,000 pounds of trout for the derby.  In addition to the fishing derby, fishing clinics will be held on-site and a limited quantity of fishing rods will be available for loan.

There will also be a complimentary barbecue lunch for those participating. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Rain will not cancel event.  The event is free but parking inside the park is $5.

The event will be held at the North Lake near the intersection of Edinger and Euclid.

Cold Duck Band to entertain Thursday at Concerts in the park

The Cold Duck Band will bring their music of the ‘80’s to the Concert in the Park this Thursday.  The Concert, from 6 to 8 p.m., is part of the month-long Concerts In the Park presented by the Fountain Valley Recreation Center. 

The concerts also feature food booths, games for kids and fun for the entire family.  The concerts take place at the Fountain Valley Recreation Center and Sports Park at Brookhurst and Heil Streets.
